Holes is a 2003 live-action drama film adapted from a highly acclaimed children's book. I think it's definitely worth the watch and I'm glad I got around to seeing it. I sort of thought it was going to be a coming-of-age comedy going in to it, but although the film does have a sense of humor, I didn't expect it to be about a serious plot and due to the oppressive setting of the film if I were to consider it a comedy, it would be dark comedy. I truly have never wanted to go to a summer camp less. Characters throughout it have no reason to be happy although some optimism for their future eventually comes within reach. The struggles the kids face has a real-world groundedness to it. The film has ideas about injustice, incarceration, destiny and redemption that are arguably mature, and if failing that, at least thought-provoking.

Holes is a solid watch.
